Soya chunks or meal maker cooked with chilly and spices. This soya chunks masala dry / stir-fry recipe is an easy, healthy and tasty side-dish.
INGREDIENTS
Soya chunk - 200 gm
Hot water - 4 cups
Coconut oil - 3 to 4 tbsp
Curry leaves - a few
Coconut flakes / Coconut pieces - 1 handful
Onion - 3
Crushed ginger and garlic - 2 1/2 tbsp
Tomato - 2 nos
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Chilli powder - 1 tsp
Pepper powder - 1 tsp
Garam masala powder - 1 tsp
Fennel seed powder - 1/4 tsp
Salt - as per taste
Water - 1 cup
Coriander leaves - for garnish
METHOD
- In a bowl, add soya chunks, hot water. Soak for about 15 mins.
- After 15 mins, squeeze all the excess water from soya. Repeat until all the water is removed.
- Heat pan on medium flame.
- After pan becomes hot, add coconut oil, curry leaves. Saute for a few seconds.
- Add coconut flakes. Saute until it becomes light colour.
- Add onion. Saute until it becomes transparent.
- Add crushed ginger-garlic. Saute until raw smell goes.
- Add tomatoes. Saute for a few minutes.
- Close the lid and cook until it becomes mushy.
- Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, pepper powder, garam masala, fennel seed powder, salt. Mix well
- Add soya chunk. Mix well.
- Add water and close lid and cook for about 15 mins. Stir in between.
- Check salt and add salt if needed.
- Open lid and cook for another 10 mins or until it becomes completely dry.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
