Moong Dal Recipe | Tasty and Healthy Petite yellow lentils


Moong Dal Tadka is a simple Indian dal made with split petite yellow lentils. This vegetarian recipe is a very tasty and healthy dish. Try this recipe and share your comments :) INGREDIENTS Moong dal - 1/3 cup Water - 2 cups (plus for gravy) Shallots, chopped - 1 (if shallots are very small in size, you can use 3 shallots) Green chilli, slit- 1 big size (as per taste) Garlic - 2 no Salt - as per taste For tempering / Tadka: Coconut Oil- 2 tbsp Mustard seed - 1/4 tsp Shallots - 2 Red chilli - 2 Salt - one pinch Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp Chilli powder - 1 tsp Fennel seeds powder - 1/4 tsp METHOD Wash the moong dal thoroughly. Heat pan on a medium flame, add the washed moong dal, 2 cups of water, shallots, green chilli, garlic, and salt. Mix well. Cook for about 15- 20 mins or until nicely cooked. While cooking dal, a white foam will appear. Remove the white foam from the top. You can add a little more water after dal is cooked. Bring it to boil. Remove the pan from heat. Turn heat to medium. Place another pan for Tadka. Add oil, when oil becomes hot add mustard seed. After the mustard seeds pop, add shallots, red chilli, and salt. Mix well. Cook until onions become brown. Turn heat to low and add turmeric powder, fennel powder, chilli powder. Quickly mix the spice powder well with a spoon. Immediately pour the tempering mixture in the moong dal. Stir the moong dal. Serve moong dal hot with steamed rice or chapatis. Enjoy!
